Partial Discharges: the answer to lots of questions

There’s who didn’t know how to choose among one wire supplier and another; who didn’t know if it was better to use the self-bonding wire or insert the phase separators; who didn’t know which was the winding speed suitable to combine the production times and the maintenance of the wire quality; who – not having any experience on electrical motors – wanted to produce the best product on the market; who didn’t know why – using the same wire – some motors lasted less than others; who, even if sure to have already optimized the best production process and chosen the best insulated materials, wanted the real proof, actually measuring the quality of its own products.

These are only a minimum part of the Customers who, for these or other reasons, contacted with e.d.c. and rely on our technology to know the answers to all the questions always with no answer.

The measurement of the Partial Discharges in fact allows to measure the quality of a product, from the insulation point of view. The verb “measure” it’s not chosen at random: in fact, the test result is a number, or better, a voltage from which it starts to be present the partial discharges (the famous PDIV: Partial Discharges Inception Voltage, i.e. the voltage from which the partial discharges start to be present). In other words, it’s the voltage from which the material doesn’t behave anymore as a perfect insulator, but starts to leave flowing really small quantities of energy.

This technology allows the characterization of the material from the insulation point of view: it let measure what is better or worse and of how much, therefore allowing to choose consciously processes, materials, technologies. Stop with just purchasing the most expensive, with the hope that it has the best quality; stop with basing your own choices on what your competitors do; stop with products burning on the field before their natural expected life duration, even if they passed the standard tests.

Customers from all over the world, from Italy to China, from Germany to India, from France to Turkey, from Spain to Mexico, from Brazil to Switzerland, from the UK to Iran, from the USA to Czech Republic, and we could keep on listing for a long time, understood the great potential of this measurement and used it successfully in laboratory, in r&d, in quality control and in production.

To support multinationals and historical companies which decide to invest in quality, to help car manufacturers in the passage between the traditional car and the electrical car, to be on the side of whichever company in the study and optimization of the economical costs as well as of the process parameters and in the choice of the materials are among the targets that e.d.c. sets to itself for its Customers, thanks to these special measurements.

We helped many companies to answer to the questions with no answer. Now we wait for your questions to discover together the correct answers for you. Contact us for additional informations, tests and samplings, demonstrations, reports and additional informative materials.
