The testing systems are proposed on the base of many different requirements: the product characteristics, the tests required, the cycle time, the space available for the testing station, the data interchange, …
Among the others, one of the most curious, happened more than once, it’s the need to check that the operator actually performs the testing, avoiding that he/she uses tricks or artifices to optimize his/her job.
In different realities in fact we’ve unfortunately found out that, for different reasons, sometimes the operators find solutions to simplify or lighten their job, at the expense of the products testing and therefore with possible consequences on the quality of the finished products put on the market.
Sometimes the operators try to reduce their physical efforts: this happened, for example, with an Italian producer (now a multinational company) of industrial product; the operator, in order to avoid the fatigue to place and remove every product to be tested in the testing station, tested always the same product, even if apparently a complete batch resulted as tested.
Other times, it’s only the wish to finish the job earlier: this happened, for example, with the French plant of a multinational company, specifically with the production of small size armatures; also here, the operator was testing many times the same armatures, simulating to have tested the complete batch.
Everyone with his own method, these operators bypassed the systems in order to work less than what they had to, at the expense of the quality of the products, potentially faulty as they were not tested, and therefore of their company.
For each of these situations, e.d.c. added special options to the systems, in order to guarantee that the operator performs all the operations correctly, on each part to be tested.
The basic philosophy used to solve the problem was the aim to let more complex or tiring for the operator to avoid the testing, therefore making not convenient anymore to proceed with the unfair behaviour kept up to that moment.
Obviously, the solution is customized case by case, using special placements, sensors of presence, barcodes, testing and reservation sequences semi-rigid, …
In short, also in the moment in which you may have testing difficulties not due neither to the product i9n test, nor to the testing cycle or to production requirements, nor to other technical factors but due to the human component, e.d.c. can support you in finding the right testing solution.
